Antivirus performance comparison
All users of computers should install a third party anti-virus tool. These tools can help identify and eliminate malware from a computer and can also stop malicious websites that could attempt to steal or corrupt user data. However, these tools can significantly slow down a computer’s speed and performance when they are running an examination or updating their database with infected files. This article reviews the performance of various antivirus software by testing the extent to which they slow a computer down.
The independent AV Comparatives lab conducts many separate tests to test security software products. Its tests focus on security in real-world scenarios detection of files infected (classical testing) as well as performance and other functions. Each test type is tested repeatedly over the period of one year. according to the results, AV-Comparatives awards Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to security products.

Avira Prime performed well in AV Comparatives tests. It offered the 99% of protection against Mac malware, PUAs and Windows Malware. However, it requires a subscription to get full functionality and its advertising messages are often quite irritating.
